If your solar panels are rooftop-mounted solar panels, your homeowner’s insurance policy will cover them as part of your dwelling coverage. However, depending on the size of your solar panel system, you may have to increase the amount of coverage based on the value of the panel system or the increase of value that the panels bring to your home which actually can increase your insurance premiums. Alternatively, Solar panels that are ground-mounted may require separate coverage by your homeowner’s policy.

Solar Installation

The actual solar panel installation usually only takes about 3-5 days. However, the process of approval and permitting can take an average of 4-6 months. Solar Net Metering is a type of local utility company program that allows utility customers to create credit for unused solar energy on the grid until a time when your home’s energy usage is greater than your solar production. This allows excess daytime energy to be used at night, and surplus summer energy to be used during the winter months.
